The Grote Gracht separates the neighborhoods "Binnenstad" and "Statenkwartier". The Statenkwartier is a traditional street with mixed activities such as shops, catering establishments, schools, small businesses and houses. Maastricht also offers an enormous amount of monumental buildings and Catholic architecture.

After a major renovation, Boutique Hotel Grote Gracht opened its doors in early July 2014. The monumental character of the building, with all the old facets and details, has been preserved.
